Frequently Asked Questions
Answers that add up.
Why should I outsource my company's bookkeeping instead of handling it myself?
Our proactive accounting services go beyond traditional bookkeeping. We actively monitor your financial performance, identify potential risks and opportunities early, and provide actionable insights to support informed business decisions. This leaves you with more time to focus on your business.
What happens if SARS selects my business for a VAT or PAYE audit?
A SARS audit can be intimidating and complex. Our tax specialists manage the entire process for you, providing the necessary VAT, PAYE and Income Tax audit support and ensuring all documentation is correctly reconciled. We handle the communication and representations, protecting you from potential penalties.
How can your firm help us reduce our annual tax liability?
Tax planning begins with strategic, long-term foresight, not just end-of-year filing. At CVC Accounting & Tax Services, we provide proactive tax advice and compliance reviews in full alignment with the Income Tax Act, helping you identify all legitimate tax savings, deductions, and structuring opportunities. Our goal is to ensure you never pay more tax than legally required, while optimising your financial position for growth and sustainability.
As a small business, do I really need formal Annual Financial Statements?
Not necessarily. Under the Companies Act, if your Public Interest Score (PIS) does not require a full audit, your business may qualify for an Independent Review or Compilation instead. At CVC Accounting & Tax Services, we prepare accurate, IFRS for SMEs-compliant financial statements designed to meet the requirements of SARS, banks, and lenders. These statements also support asset finance applications and other financial dealings, ensuring your business remains credible, compliant, and financially sound.
When is a professional Business Valuation necessary for my company?
A professional business valuation provides a legally credible and defensible fair market value. It is essential for key events such as:
- Selling your business
- Planning mergers or acquisitions
- Determining key-man insurance requirements
- Settling partnership or divorce disputes
- Estate planning and creating generational wealth
We are facing a dispute with SARS; can you assist with resolution?
Yes. Our advisory services include specialist support for SARS compromise and dispute management. We handle the process from start to finish, including representations to the SARS Tax Board, using our deep regulatory knowledge to pursue a favourable resolution for your case.
How does setting up a Trust protect my family's assets?
A Trust is a critical tool for protecting your assets and for efficient Estate Planning. We provide professional advice on structuring and compliance with the Trust Property Control Act, helping you to minimise tax liabilities (Section 7C compliance) and ensuring the smooth, tax-efficient transfer of wealth to future generations.
Do I really need an accountant if I already use accounting software?
Yes. While accounting software can help with recordkeeping, it cannot replace the expertise of a qualified accountant. An accountant helps you navigate the complexity of South African tax laws, interpret financial data, and provide strategic advice that supports business growth, cash flow management, and long-term financial planning.
